Massachusetts H.5142

Requires health insurers to cover non-opioid medications without favoring opioids over non-opioids.
Requires the Massachusetts Department of Health create educational materials about non-opioid treatments for use at pharmacies, as well as develop new provider training requirements regarding non-opioid alternatives for pain treatment.

Minnesota S.F. 1946

Requires health insurers cover non-opioid treatments and prohibits utilization controls that are more restrictive or extensive than the least restrictive or extensive utilization controls for opioids. Also requires health insurers to distribute non-opioid educational materials to in-network providers and enrollees and to publish resources on the health plan company's website.
